Inside Charm City posted this on the US Flag Code: “The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature.”
My goodness, this seems really petty to me given the prevalence of this sort of thing. Just look at the political party conventions. They are chock full of fugly clothes, pins, hats, and other nick-nacks that violate the US Flag Code. I have yet to see a Democrat or Republican who really insisted that their supporters adhere to the code. Most people simply don't find it all that important any more.
I know. It's a bit petty and both sides are guilty of it. However, it has always been one of my pet peeves when people blatantly disrespect the flag by trying to be all cutesy.
I guess you can say that I am a throwback because I do still think it's important. It's how my parents raised me. They also raised me to believe that nothing should ever be placed on top of a bible, and even though I am barely religious, I still give the book that respect.
And if you ever catch me running for office, you bet your ass I will speak out if I see my supporters doing the same.
Yeah, I'm fussy about that sort of thing too. I don't have a flag up at my apartment. I know I couldn't treat it according to regulations so I think it's better not to have one up. I was also taught that about the Bible. We were also taught never to put a Bible on the floor. I'm still pretty religious, so those traditions still play a role in my life.
Anyway, if you ever do run for office, let me know! We need more women in politics. Just think about it...
Running for office is definitely in my 5 year plan. I want to go back to school for my graduate degree first and then as soon as I'm done with that I plan on running for something. Probably something local at first but I would like to work my way up. At least that is how it stands now.
I will definately keep you posted on any progress. And you should think about running too, your absolutely right that we do need more women in office. Especially smart, level-headed women such as yourself.
When you run for office, I will come out there and help you campaign. Besides, it would be great to visit Pennsylvania again. I don't know about me running. I never feel like I could fit in with the two big parties. I feel like I'm a little bit of everything, you know?
